Wldebeest migration in Serengeti continues year after year. This year, the pattern of migration is more or less the same. The rains, that translates in green grass for the wildebeest, is the major determinant of the movement. This year, the Serengeti has experienced  less rains than usual. That being the case, the movement from south Serengeti to north Serengeti has started earlier, and, crossing Mara River might be earlier as well.

There is a good number of  domestic flights in Tanzania. Tanzania is a large country. Currently, the  airlines operating within Tanzania are: Air Tanzania, Precision Air, Flightlink, Coastal Travels, Air Excel, Regional Air, and Tropical Air. These operate  airplanes of various passenger capacities, from three seats upwards. These airlines operate schedule flights as well as charter flights. Not all parts of Tanzania are served by schedule flights – some as reached by small charter flights. For instance, Mahale National Park, that island in Lake Tanganyika where  chimpanzees dwell,  is reached by boat and small charter flights.

Casual, comfortable clothes are recommended. It is good to travel light.  There are no  extreme temperatures in Tanzania, except at Kilimanjaro Mountain where  the temperature will be around 20C  at the bottom while at the peak it is below 0C with snow. Casual wear advisable, shorts are quite ok. Khaki wear, whether short or long, will be ok for the entire safari.  If you are planning to do a guided trek in the park, walking shoes will be needed. In short, khaki  shorts and long, a cotton shirt preferably in brown colour  with multiple pockets (some routes are quite dusty), will do. Hats, sunglasses, may be needed, individually.  Insect repellents are recommended, especially if you intend to spend sometime outside the ten/lodge to enjoy the night sky.

Tanzania safari costs are varied, depending on the following: (1). The park(s) to be visited. Some parks are far from the starting point (Arusha in this case) an some are not far. (2). The number of days on safari. The number of safari days can be one, two, three, ….. even to more than a month. Your choice (3) The standard and type of accommodation. The type of accommodation may be basic camping tents, permanent canvas camps, seasonal camping  tents, tented lodges and concrete building lodges. The amenities, location, season will determine the cost of accommodation.  The cost of simple camping  tent may be as low as $100per person per night, while top most super luxury lodge
costs $2,000 per person per nigh. (4). Park entry fees, also known as conservation fees. (5) Means of transport. Mostly by Safari Cars, but there may be extra activity like horse ride, boat ride, cycling, flights (airplanes , helicopters, and balloons) and quad bikes. (6) Extras while on safari – cultural visit, walking (trekking), special site visits, local village visits, etc etc. All these will attract additional payment in various amounts.

2022 park entry fee in some parks in Tanzania.  Please note the following: The fees are paid on single entry basis, valid for twenty four hours or part thereof . In case the accommodation will be outside the park, the latest time to exit the  park is at 1800. Like wise, the earliest time to enter the park is at 0600. If the accommodation will be inside the park, one can stay in the park till the time one entered the park the day(s) before.  Additionally, the cost of  descend down to the crater floor is $250 per car. And lastly, all these costs are subject to VAT, currently standing at 18%.

Wildebeest Migration, as usual, has already started to move from south Serengeti towards the north. The crossing of Mara river is expected to start early due to the fact that the expected long rain is less than usual this year.
