At Safari Multiways, we’re passionate about making your climb unforgettable. With our expert-guided tours and a tailor-made 5-day itinerary, you’re set to conquer Kilimanjaro with confidence and in great spirits!
Day 1: Arrival and Preparation at Moshi
Your journey begins in the vibrant town of Moshi, nestled at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon your arrival, a Safari Multiways representative will greet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transport you to your comfortable accommodation in Moshi. Here, you’ll have the chance to relax and soak in the local culture. In the evening, join us for a welcome dinner where you’ll meet your guides and fellow climbers. We’ll discuss the climb’s details, check your gear, and ensure you’re fully prepared for the ascent.
Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
After an energizing breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive to the Machame Gate, where your Kilimanjaro adventure officially starts. The first day on the mountain is exhilarating – you’ll trek through lush rainforests that echo with the calls of exotic birds and monkeys. The path here is well-trodden and moist, and the air is fresh with the scent of damp foliage.
This segment of your climb culminates at Machame Camp, set amidst an area brimming with giant heathers. Here, at an altitude of 3,000 meters, we’ll spend our first night under the stars. It’s a perfect time to bond with your group and acclimate to the higher elevation.
Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Rise and shine to a hearty breakfast before we tackle the trail from Machame Camp to Shira Camp. As you ascend, the lush rainforest gradually gives way to moorland. The landscape opens up, offering your first glimpses of the Kibo peak. The trek to Shira Camp, situated on a plateau that offers spectacular views across the plains below, is where you’ll truly begin to feel the majesty of Kilimanjaro.
At Shira Camp, 3,840 meters above sea level, enjoy the sunset painting golden hues across the vast sky—an ideal backdrop for reflecting on the journey thus far.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Your adventure continues as you hike from Shira Camp towards the imposing Lava Tower, a volcanic rock formation that stands at about 4,630 meters. This part of the trek is crucial for acclimatization and will test your endurance. After lunch at Lava Tower, you’ll descend to Barranco Camp, set in a valley below the Western Breach and Great Barranco Wall.
This descent is a natural part of the “walk high, sleep low” acclimatization principle, essential for adjusting to the altitude. Barranco Camp is known for its beautiful, surreal landscape, featuring high cliffs and vast skies filled with stars—a magical place to rest.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Today, you’ll face the Great Barranco Wall. Although it looks imposing, the climb is mostly a fun and exhilarating scramble. Reaching the top offers a feeling of achievement coupled with fantastic views of the southern ice fields. The trail then winds up and down, crossing valleys and ridges to Barafu Camp, the base camp located at 4,640 meters.
Here, amidst the alpine desert, the air feels cooler, and the excitement grows; you’re just a few hours away from the summit. Rest early tonight, as you’ll begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak around midnight.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
The culmination of your climb begins under the cover of darkness, traversing between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You’ll make your way up steep scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim, the most challenging part of the climb, both mentally and physically. But the reward is unparalleled: watching the sunrise from Stella Point floods the sky with colors and emotions difficult to describe.
From Stella Point, it’s a relatively easier hike to Uhuru Peak, standing proud at 5,895 meters. Congratulations, you’ve reached the highest point in Africa! After celebrating and capturing this moment, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
On your final day, a leisurely walk leads you through the forest to Mweka Gate. Collect your summit certificate, a token of what you’ve achieved. Safari Multiways will be waiting to take you back to Moshi, where a celebratory farewell dinner awaits.
