Now that you’re convinced that the Rongai Route is the one for you, let’s explore the thrilling 8-day itinerary!
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you’ll be greeted by a cheerful Safari Multiways representative. After a warm welcome, you’ll be transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. Take this day to relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.
We recommend visiting the local markets or savoring some delicious Tanzanian cuisine in the evening. Don’t forget to hydrate and get a good night’s sleep; tomorrow, your journey to the summit begins!
Get ready for the first day of trekking! After breakfast, we’ll drive you to the Rongai Gate, where the adventure officially begins. The trek to Simba Camp is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) and will take approximately 4-5 hours.
As we ascend through the lush rainforest, keep your eyes open for the unique wildlife that calls this area home. You’ll feel the excitement bubbling within as you hike through the vibrant foliage. Upon reaching Simba Camp, you can relax, enjoy a hearty dinner, and soak in the stunning views of the mountain as the sun sets.
Rise and shine! Today’s hike will take you to Second Cave, situated at an altitude of 3,450 meters (11,319 feet). The trek is around 8 kilometers (5 miles) and will take you approximately 4-5 hours.
As you walk, you’ll notice a shift in the landscape. The forest begins to give way to moorland, offering a different scenery and possibly some unusual flora like the giant lobelia. Reach Second Cave Camp in the afternoon, where you’ll enjoy dinner and have the chance to stargaze under the clear African skies.
Today, we’ll hike from Second Cave to Kikelewa Camp, which is approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) away and will take around 4-5 hours.
The views get even more spectacular as we make our way through the heath and moorlands. Upon reaching Kikelewa Camp, take a moment to relax and enjoy the stunning vistas of the Mawenzi Peak. As you settle in for the night, reflect on your journey so far and the incredible landscape that surrounds you.
Get ready for a day filled with awe-inspiring views! Today’s trek is only 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) but will take around 4-5 hours due to the altitude gain.
The hike to Mawenzi Tarn Camp offers some of the most breathtaking scenery on the entire route. The towering Mawenzi Peak will be your backdrop, and the striking landscape will leave you spellbound. After setting up camp, you have the option to take a short acclimatization hike to explore the area further.
Today, we’ll make our way to Kibo Camp, which is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) from Mawenzi Tarn and will take around 5-6 hours.
As we descend into the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, you’ll experience a dramatic change in scenery. Upon reaching Kibo Camp, take time to rest and prepare for the summit push. Your guide will brief you on the upcoming trek, and an early dinner will precede an early bedtime. The anticipation will keep your spirits high!
The day has finally arrived! Wake up around midnight and fuel up with a hearty breakfast. The trek from Kibo Camp to Uhuru Peak is around 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) and will take approximately 6-8 hours.
This is the most challenging part of your journey, but the exhilarating sense of achievement you’ll feel as you reach the summit makes it all worthwhile. As the sun rises, painting the sky with shades of pink and orange, you’ll stand at the “Roof of Africa.” Capture this moment; it’s a triumph you’ll remember forever!
After soaking in the views, you’ll begin your descent to Horombo Camp, which is approximately 13 kilometers (8 miles) away and will take about 5-7 hours. Celebrate with your fellow climbers as you enjoy a well-deserved dinner at camp!
As you wake up in Horombo Camp, take a moment to reflect on your incredible journey. After breakfast, it’s time to descend to Marangu Gate, which is around 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) and will take approximately 5-7 hours.
Once you reach Marangu Gate, you’ll receive your well-earned certificate of achievement! Celebrate your triumph over Kilimanjaro with a toast to new friends and unforgettable memories.
